the good ole' switcharoo...no
I never thought about us as humans thinking robotic ally and not ourselves. Now that i think about it, i do it a lot. My mother use to get upset when I took things exactly as she said them and asked why didn't i use common sense. my response was that that's not what she asked for. I believe robots should stay at a level in which we can control them, and that we as humans should act more human. If we are to believe that our humanity is something special, then why remove that for faster workers, more money, and the like? I understand that the world we live in is faster and more technology based, but does that make us more or less productive as human agents? is technological advancement really advancement for mankind? that is up to you. personally, if Adam and Eve were in paradise without a laptop, then the heaven on earth we need has nothing to do with being more robotic and having things faster. I believe that robots should be the robots. what is the purpose of having A.I.? what good will it serve mankind? If one of the answers is to use them in war instead of human lives, we will have to take into consideration the "life" of a robot with "feelings". In the end, it would be the dominate race over the subordinate. Personally, I don't want a repeat of slavery, but hey, they would be just machines, right?

I agree, if technology continues to progress artificial intelligence, we will eventually become their slaves. It is not completely off to think that in the near future robots will be experimenting on us.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with your stance on the situation. I believe that if we continue to advance AI, there would eventually be a dominant and a subordinate race. Unfortunately, humans will most likely be the subordinate race. I feel that humans have been getting along just fine without the presence of AI. The fact that individuals want to build robots strictly for war doesn't sit well with me. I do not agree with the idea of building something solely for war, destruction, and violence.
ReplyDeleteI think it depends. The robots we have now aren't AI; they're machines. They aren't living or conscious or capable of anything but a few, specific, preprogrammed actions. However, when AI, real AI, is developed, I would consider that a real concern. If an AI robot can think original thoughts and have opinions, then I'd have a problem with utilizing them like we do with non-AI robots.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Brenda that utilizing AI in war is a major concern. I also agree largely with Larshay; humans can be robotic, especially in our laziness. I have had the same experiences of not using common sense when performing an action. I simply do what I am told. I also have concerns when it comes to implementing robotics into our everyday lives for profit. Why do we feel that we need this advanced technology? Sure it might make things easier, but are we really that lazy that we need a machine to do everything for us? Could we turn into the people from Wall-E? Although technology seems beneficial in the present, I believe that in the long run, it hinders us from our own humanity because it changes our natural responses and expectations.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the only we will be subject to become slaves to robots is if they some how got stronger and more smarter than us and we wouldn't be able to turn them off. But just think about it, the information that they possess are the information that we put into them. Which sort of means that we tell them what to do. They are only machines and all machines go out. But if they have the intelligence to search the web in seconds, they can ultimately fix their selves. So in actuality lol I think we are all screwed if this happens.
