As we may or may not have noticed, technology is becoming far more advances than it ever was. Maybe even so advanced that the thought of it may actually be scary. For example, let us look at RFID chips. RFID chips are used basically to track things. Let us say that you lose something and you may really want to find that very thing that you lost. Well there is good news my friend. If you had put a RFID chip in the very thing that you lost, there is a good possibility that it will be found again. With the chip inside of it, it can easily be tracked! These particular chips can be put into almost anything. They could be put inside personal belongings, pets, and even people! Scary right? I can somewhat see how that would be helpful when it comes to finding lost children, but let us be honest. With all of the hearsay that we hear that goes on within the government system, would you really want to insert a chip inside of your body? Exactly how safe would you actually be with the government being able to track your every move? Who even likes the thought of being tracked?
Although there are possible both pros and cons of having the chips inserted. What are the consequences of having these chips inserted? I just honestly do not even like the thought of being tracked. I understand that technically now we sort of are being tracked through our phones, but having a chip inserted; that is a total different level. That has gone too far.
I agree that we can argue that implanting a chip can be a good thing but I would not like the government regulating my steps if I were to put one inside me or any children. This makes me wonder how much are we exactly being tracked? I know with our cell phones the tracking device is already placed in it but what about all the fingerprint records from all the iPhones? Do they, along with out locations, recorded and stored somewhere? I think that we are slowly getting more accustomed to being tracked. First without location, then this fingerprint feature, but what will the RFID chip be next? If we are to slowly transition intro surveillance lives, what will happen to our "privacy"?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think everyone is being tracked with or without the chips so it doesn't really matter if we have them or not. For the people who have them, I guess it would just make it easier for the government to track us but regardless the government will always find a way to track us. For the people who haven't taken this class, hearing the pros of having a chip would make people want to get it because most likely they wouldn't be informed about the cons. It is like in a commercial for certain types of medicine. The commercial shows you how mush better the person feels after taking the medicine, but won't tell you that it could possibly cause cancer and if they do it is in small print on the commercial which nobody reads. So when it comes to tracking devices I just feel like "we are damned if we do and damned if we don't " because anyway or another everyone is being tracked.
ReplyDeleteI am not terribly scared of being tracked with those chips, we are already on a ridiculous level of tracking that there is really no way for someone to be unable to find me if they really wanted me that bad. The government definitely has all the resources to track everything with or without a chip so using a chip for our own convenience doesn't sound too bad to me.
