Humans vs. Human Robots

For most of the week, we have been discussing the uses, progressions and programming of robots. The questions that have constantly surfaced were: will robots be able to adapt to every situation like humans do? Will they be able to learn at the level of a human or faster? Or will they have to be re-programmed every time new information is exposed. Another question is will robots be able to show love or emotions like a human, and will they be genuine. As of right now all of these questions are still unclear. There is no way of knowing how robots will truly be once they are created. Since artificial intelligence is constantly changing, it is hard to know for sure how robots will respond to certain situations or if they will be capable of loving a human or another robot back. I believe that the advancement of robots will eventually lead to them being able to generate coping mechanisms, real emotions and having the ability to adapt to situations without having to be re-programmed every time. These concepts won’t happen because of programming but because of imitation. Robots could easily become aware of how humans react in situations and eventually start imitating their behaviors. Does that make them at least human- like? Or are they still only robots? Also, if some of the transcendent concepts of humans are that they are born or have a specific birth date, could that become the same thing for robots? For example, once a robot is done being created, could that technically be its birth date? And if scientists can make “test tube” babies, is that baby technically a robot because of how it was made? Another example is the movie Gattaca. If we are introduced to new technology and able to create a human without them being conceived through sex, would they still be human? Or would they just be considered a non- mechanical robot?
